La Roche-sur Foron up to the 14th century
|

The church of "Saint-Jean Baptiste", and then the streets "Perrine" and "de Silence" gave rise to a new expansion, resulting in a fresh wave of fortification in the 14th century: this was the second wall.
The town also enjoyed the privileges of a Free City. The exemptions from toll - a real mark of progress- gave it a substantial, commercial and economic boost. In 1335 The Charter was written. Drafted in Latin, it was effectively a Civil Code, moral and administrative; it outlined the commercial rights and fiscal advantages which were to define the history of La Roche. |
