La Roche up to its entry into the 21th century

Today La Roche continues its very ancient commercial traditions and practices connected with its exemptions, its markets, its livestock fairs, thanks mainly to the numerous businesses in town and its all-encompassing Fair. In fact, as long ago as 1925, La Roche inaugurated an exhibition of new and used automobiles. This event grew apace to become in 1956 "the Fair of Haute-Savoie Mont-blanc" and since 1999 "the International Fair of La Roche" attracting more than 100,000 visitors. Not bad at all for a town with a population of a mere 9,000 !

Since 1955 The Exhibition Centre has been the venue for SIMODEC (International Screw-Cutting Machine Tool Show) which every two years is the rendez-vous for professionals of the industry from around the world.
Moreover, its amenities, the most extensive in the area, as well as its central location, favour the regular organisation of congresses, shows and sporting events.

But the economy depends also upon the diversity of its industry. La Roche is the seat of the Head Office of the "Banque Populaire Savoisienne", and this since 1919 ! The town's enterprises also include well established businesses in the world of finance, food processing, plastic containers, and of course, "décolletage" (screw-cutting).

Quality education is offered by several "lycées" and colleges and one specialist technical institution -E.N.I.L.V.- (National School of Milk and Meat Industry), one of the best in its field in France.

Additionally, since the 1990's, the town has put substantial resources into its historic monuments, and enhanced their visual value with quality floral displays. Not surprisingly, today La Roche offers a pleasant way of life and attracts increasing numbers of transient or staying visitors. Its Medieval City is even considered to be the 2nd (in importance) historic site in Haute-Savoie, and the town was awarded "3 flowers" (out of a possible 4) by the National Competition for best flowering towns and cities.
La Roche region has further assets such as interesting craftwork and architecture; and its geographic location at the foot of the "Bornes" mountains favours leisure activities like rambling, mountain bike, Nordic and Alpine skiing, summertime tobogganing, mini golf and water sports in its excellent complex.

Finally, La Roche seems well placed to enter the 21th century , but with regard to this only time will tell!
